People in India typically wait years before speaking to anyone about how they feel. Not because help does not exist, but because it is hard to know whether what you are experiencing is bad enough to justify asking, and hard to find words for it once you do.

What this is

A structured twenty-minute check-in across eight areas — mood, anxiety, sleep, energy, focus, withdrawal, self-worth and overall load. It gives you a clear picture of where the strain is sitting and, more usefully, something concrete to say when you do talk to someone.

What this is not

It is not a diagnosis, and no online questionnaire can give you one. You will not be told you have depression or an anxiety disorder, because that is not something a web form can establish. What you get is a description of how you answered, and honest guidance on when involving a professional would help more than reading anything.

Safety comes before anything else

The check-in includes a question about thoughts of self-harm, asked early rather than at the end. If you indicate that, the assessment stops, your report unlocks at no cost, and support numbers appear immediately. We are not going to put that behind a payment, and we are not going to make someone answer thirty more questions first.

Free support in India

Tele-MANAS on 14416 is free, available 24×7, government-run and available in many Indian languages. You do not need a referral, a diagnosis or a crisis to call. If cost is what is stopping you from getting support, use that before you spend money anywhere — including here.

Common questions

Is this confidential?

Yes. Your answers are yours. Nobody is contacted on your behalf, and your responses are not shared with anyone.

Can this diagnose depression or anxiety?

No. Only a qualified professional, in conversation with you, can do that. This describes patterns in how you answered — nothing more, and it says so throughout.

When should I actually see someone?

The useful signal is not a score. It is duration and interference — if something has lasted more than a few weeks and is affecting your work, sleep, study or relationships, that is the point where talking to someone qualified is worth it. Early, not as a last resort.

What if I cannot afford therapy?

Tele-MANAS on 14416 is free and government-run, available round the clock in multiple languages. iCall on +91 9152987821 is also free. We would genuinely rather you called them than nobody.
